Activity within the framework of the exhibition Sense esquerda no hi ha punt de llum

Merci Xula films the latest music video of Ouineta at Santa Mònica, with the full filming crew and the artist’s creative team occupying the exhibition space.

Following the event concept that inspires the exhibition Sense esquerda no hi ha punt de llum, this live shoot at the art centre reveals the creative process behind the visuals for a new musical piece by the artist.

Music video shoots are generally private, so the activity offers a controlled voyeuristic experience, allowing the full day to be observed without direct interaction with the space or the artists.

Featuring Ouineta

Ouineta is a Catalan popstar blending music, dance and performance with an ironic gaze that challenges conventional pop norms. She debuted in 2023 with the EP Ouineta23, exploring female desire, personal growth, love, and online identity, surpassing 150,000 digital streams, and continued with tracks like “Wild”, “Gardwood NJ” and “Bikini Kill”, which led to her sold-out concert at La Mercè in Barcelona. Recently, she has strengthened her trajectory with viral hits such as “DMs” and “Fatal, fatal”, and with the collaboration “Otra cara” with Jimena Amarillo, a preview of her upcoming album. Winner of the Sona9 Youth Award, Ouineta has become a key figure in the new wave of Catalan artists and in 2025 embarks on her first festival tour across Catalonia, performing at Sónar, Embassa’t and Vida, among others.

Merci Xula is an independent audiovisual production company founded by Clàudia del Barrio and Helena Roig, two visual creators with a unique and experimental vision. Born out of a passion for image and narrative, Merci Xula explores new audiovisual languages with its own aesthetic sensibility and a fresh and innovative approach. The company is particularly interested in generating content in Catalan in order to contribute to enriching the audiovisual panorama of our language.

Clàudia del Barrio is an editor, director and visual artist with experience in video clips, contemporary art pieces and film editing. A graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, she has worked with artists such as Ouineta, Mushkaa and Amaia, and has presented her work in venues such as the Joan Miró Foundation and the Santa Mònica.

Helena Roig is a photographer and videographer with a focus on constructing visual identities and storytelling through images. She has been the in-house photographer for Manifesta 15 in Barcelona and has participated in art projects internationally, including exhibitions at Ars Electronica and the IMPAKT Festival. She is also artist-in-residence at the Santa Mònica and PAAC, where she explores the links between digital intimacy, radical honesty and audiovisual creation.

Sense esquerda no hi ha punt de llum

For over two weeks, the arts centre transforms to host and mix diverse audiences and actions. An exhibition that aims to question what we mean by, and who is addressed by, what we call, precisely, a “cultural event.”
