Carlota Cáceres is one of the most outstanding performers of the new generation of percussionists associated with contemporary music. Under the name Garden of Shadows, Cáceres presents at the Mixtur Festival a demanding program of remarkable sonic richness.

The cornerstone of the concert is the three excerpts from Six Japanese Gardens, the collection of musical impressions that Kaija Saariaho composed inspired by the gardens of Kyoto. Alongside these works, compositions by Simon Steen-Andersen and Anahita Abbasi, together with miniatures created within the framework of the festival by Marta Domingues and Siyeol Ju, will showcase the breadth of contemporary percussion: from timbral precision and the exploration of sound to an indispensable theatrical dimension

Program:

  • Half a Bit of Nothing Integrated (2011), Simon Steen-Andersen (DK)
  • Crysalide (2024), Anahita Abbasi (IR)
  • Look mom, no drums! (2026), Marta Domingues (PT)
  • i-go (2026), Siyeol Ju (KR)
  • Six Japanese Gardens (1993), Kaija Saariaho
    • I. Tenju-an Garden of Nanzen-ji Temple
    • III. Dry Mountain Stream
    • IV. Rock Garden of Ryoan-ji
