Polysemies of silence proposes to critically explore the constructed oblivion and the different ways in which silence operates to legitimise domination, to erect colonial history as a unique discourse or to privilege some voices over others when narrating migrations.
This collective proposal by Sabers migrants and Jiser Reflexions Mediterrànies includes a creative proposal and a public programme of activities, which is framed within the exhibition The Possibility of Not Having Been. The self-published publication of the same title, which connects counter-histories and memories of resistance to epistemic violence and the devices of colonial power, will also be presented.
The cycle of activities, which begins in October, includes talks, live radio programmes and workshops for dialogue, reflection and weaving new territories of resistance. The first sessions propose a critical look at the mechanisms of power that legitimise the processes of silencing that run through colonial history and migrations, the production of absences and the denial of rights. In the face of silence, spaces for listening and dialogue are articulated that vindicate the right to construct one's own narrative, connect counter-narratives and weave critical cartographies, as we will address in the November sessions. The cycle closes in January and explores other perspectives from critical epistemologies.
