Image of the meeting between Núria Güell and the director of Santa Mònica, Enric Puig, in which the artist proposed applying—literally and as an artistic action—the guiding principles of the Arts Centre he directs.
Fantasy. An application of discourse is an artistic intervention that Núria Güell conceived and produced for "The Assault of Illusion”. This action takes place in the institutional framework of the Santa Mònica during the period in which the exhibition occupies its spaces, and questions the dynamics of desire that inhabit the institution itself. To what extent does an art centre also fall prey to the same illusions it provokes and spreads? To what degree has its own reality been assaulted by the fantasy contained in its own discourse? Do institutions serve the State or the citizenry?
Through various actions and legal operations, the artist investigates the desires and limits of the institution and the people who inhabit it in order to bring about a critical distancing from them.
Núria Güell lives and works in Vidreres. She is internationally recognised for her work on the functioning of power systems, within which she always situates her practice. Her work has been shown in the biennials of Havana, Pontevedra, Ljubljana, Liverpool, Athens and Gothenburg and in the triennials of Tallinn and Sorocaba, as well as in museums in Barcelona, The Hague, Madrid, 's-Hertogenbosch, Paris, New York, Chicago, Miami, Formigine, London, Stockholm, Istanbul, Leipzig, Bucharest, Zagreb, Cali, Lima, Berlin, Graz and Vienna.
