The Digitalisation Guild of Santa Mónica presents the first public prototyping laboratory of the Digital Kiosk.

The proposal arises from the need to collectively think about and create important questions, such as the filtering and ownership of the content we share, user profiles, and the terms and conditions of use of this community social network. In this session, an initial idea of the prototype is presented to test it and reflect together on the issues of concern, as well as its implementation, in order to collectively imagine the possibilities and considerations of its development and use in the public space.

How can we recover digital sovereignty in urban space? How can we imagine new public digital devices? Based on these and other questions, the project is conceived to address urgent issues arising from the use of private digital platforms and devices, such as their centralization, censorship, the lack of sovereignty over users’ information, dependence on technology corporations, and the practices of social networks regarding privacy and personal data.

The Digital Kiosk is a proposal for a social digital device located in public space, conceived as an alternative to dominant social media platforms, enabling and facilitating both in-person and digital interactions among neighbors and local community groups.
