Supercopa is a performance in which Verónica Ruth Frías places, one by one, 100 medals on herself, symbolizing achievements and recognitions that often go unnoticed or uncelebrated—especially in the case of women. Through this act, the artist reflects on ideas of merit, validation, and recognition, questioning who decides what counts as success and what does not.

Each medal represents not only professional accomplishments but also small, invisible personal victories—the ones that shape our identity but are rarely celebrated. How many times have women had to prove more to receive the same recognition?

The progressive accumulation of these medals on the artist’s body creates an image of excess, weight, and saturation, revealing the burden of constant external validation.
With Supercopa, Verónica Ruth Frías invites us to rethink what success really means and to reclaim the importance of self-recognition beyond official awards and titles.

Verónica Ruth Frías (Córdoba, 1978) uses costume, makeup, and camouflage to adopt other identities and develop a performative body of work that delivers a sharp, direct critique of gender issues. She has appeared as Little Red Riding Hood, the Daughter of God in the Last Supper, a superhero, a kidnapper… and through all these characters—and many more—Frías communicates what worries and outrages her, prompting us to question the roles assigned to women in contemporary society. She reaffirms her place in a male-dominated world—and in the art world. Her work is primarily performance-based, and she uses video and photography to document her ephemeral actions.

CITISSIMUM ALTISSIMUM FORTISSIMUM

CITISSIMUM ALTISSIMUM FORTISSIMUM is an exhibition about a contemporary phenomenon that, despite radically affecting our lives, remains underrepresented in the art world: sport as a symptom of contemporary society.
