Reinventing Care Technologies 

With her performance My nanny was a computer, Mònica Rikić invites us to reflect on how care robotics is designed, produced, and integrated into care infrastructures. On stage, the artist appears alongside her handmade robotic devices, around which she unfolds a series of actions and reflections on how care technologies can be reinvented to respond to diverse needs in a fair and inclusive way.

The scene unfolds as an act of tenderness that simultaneously opens up a reflection on our interdependence and our emotional relationship with systems beyond technology itself. The piece questions which technologies we choose to keep close, which ones might age alongside us, and how consent and intimacy are negotiated in our relationships with artificial devices.

Inspired by hacker and maker philosophies, the piece understands technological (re)construction as a way of bringing meaning to the world, where care is constructed rather than obeyed.

Mònica Rikić is an artist from Barcelona awarded the National Culture Award of Catalonia (Premi Nacional de Cultura de Catalunya). Her practice combines technology, art, and philosophy through the creation of electronic objects and handmade robots, conceived as critical devices that foster thinking and collective debate on the ways of life, social relations, and subjectivities emerging in an increasingly tech-driven society. She has presented her work at Ars Electronica, Manifesta, CCCB, Sónar+D, and FILE, among others, and has been recognized in international festivals such as the Japan Media Arts Festival and A MAZE. Berlin.
