Adolf Alcañiz

Carles Hac Mor (Lleida, 1940 - Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 2016) described himself as an infrapoet who never cultivated the literary genre of biography nor its subgenre, the curriculum vitae. Even so, he produced a large and highly influential body of experimental and transgressive artistic work.

Ester Xargay (Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 1960 - Palamós, 2024), writer and video artist, combined these practices with recitals, exhibitions and concerts.

More than life partners, Carles Hac Mor and Ester Xargay collaborated on numerous poetic research projects and co-wrote several books. They also carried out a wide range of artistic and literary activities, from curating exhibitions to organising poetry readings.

This session features a video with a selection of their performances and interviews from the years 2000 to 2010, followed by an open conversation with Adolf Alcañiz.

Carles Hac Mor

Carles Hac Mor (Lleida, 1940 - Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 2016) described himself as an infrapoet who never cultivated the literary genre of biography nor its subgenre, the curriculum vitae. Even so, he produced a large and highly influential body of experimental and transgressive artistic work. From 1973 to 1975 he was part of the conceptual art collective Grup de Treball. In the 1970s and 1980s he co-founded the art and poetry journals Ampit, L’Avioneta and Tecstual. In 1977 he published the first volume in what would become a wide-ranging poetic oeuvre, difficult to classify and often described as anti-poetry. In a curious twist, he won the Barcelona Jocs Florals in 2012 with Dietari del pic de l’estiu. He also wrote anti-novels, anti-essays and anti-theatre, among other works. Between 1985 and 2007 he contributed articles on art and literature to several newspapers and collaborated on the writing of film scripts. From the late 1990s onward he lived between Barcelona and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the hometown of Ester Xargay, and it was there that he died in 2016. In April of that same year he was posthumously awarded the Jaume Fuster Prize from the Catalan Writers’ Association. Pagès has published his collected works: Obra completa punt u (2012) and Obra completa punt dos (2018).

Ester Xargay

Ester Xargay (Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 1960 - Palamós, 2024) was a writer and video artist who combined these practices with recitals, exhibitions and concerts.
From 1988 she wrote on art and literature for newspapers and magazines. She published ten poetry collections, the most recent of which, Desintegrar-se, received the Cadaqués a Rosa Leveroni Prize in 2018. She was also active as a novelist, essayist and translator. Xargay curated Barcelona Poetry Week from 2005 to 2011 and the “Poesia als parcs” series, a poetry programme held in natural parks managed by Barcelona Provincial Council, from 2007 to 2014. She produced video interviews with Catalan authors for the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes and curated the dialogue series “Art entre lletres” at the Joan Brossa Foundation. In her final years she directed La Pahissa del Marquet - Arts-Lletres-Natura, a cultural centre run by Barcelona Provincial Council in the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park.
