La barriga de la montaña

A screening of the 20-minute film La barriga de la montaña, followed by a conversation with its two creators, Lola Clavo and Mariana Portela Echeverri.

On Montjuïc, a foothill of both magic and death, the normative and the monstrous converge and feed on one another. La barriga de la montaña delves into the many layers of the urban mountain, conceived as a living queer entity that reflects both past and present Barcelona, where diverse and often contradictory realities and histories coexist.

Lola Clavo (Barcelona, 1983) is a filmmaker and researcher whose training includes studies at the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC) and Goldsmiths, University of London. Situated between documentary and experimental film, her work explores memory, the body and sexuality through a critical, collaborative lens. She has forged a distinctive artistic path, creating pieces such as La Plaza (2016), which won an award at the Alcances Festival, and Pennie (2018), screened at festivals including the November Film Festival in London and Rizoma Madrid. Combining theoretical rigour with formal experimentation, her cinema becomes a space for reflection, resistance and collective creation.
 

Mariana Portela Echeverri is a multidisciplinary artist who completed a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona (2009) and an MFA in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London (2016). Her work has been exhibited internationally and spans the visual arts, theatre and cinema, exploring forms of bodily expression and the transgressive potential of eroticism through a dreamlike, experimental lens. Throughout her career, Echeverri has received accolades including the Pivô Pesquisa Research Grant for Latin American Artists (2019) and the Hangar Production Grant (2021).
