Luz ígnea

A screening of the 9-minute film Luz ígnea, followed by a conversation with its creator, Catalina Giordano, exploring images as archetypes, mirrors of our inner selves, symbols that respond to other images, and representations of the divine.

The monastery of Disibodenberg is a special place. For many years, it was home to the great Hildegard von Bingen: mystic, scholar and saint. She eventually left to establish the world’s first monastery for women. Today, her words still resonate among its ruins, echoing a vision far ahead of its time. As the day draws on, the site gradually empties of visitors and, with the coming of night, a vision takes shape.

Catalina Giordano is a filmmaker, programmer and film archivist. She studied Film Directing at FUC and Film Preservation at EQZE. She has worked as an archivist at institutions including Light Cone and Kutxa Fototeka, and has been part of the programming collectives behind film festivals and series such as CO-, Mientras Tanto Cine and Hasta Las Tetas. As a filmmaker, her short film Luz ígnea (2024) has been screened at festivals including LSSF, D’A and FIDBA. Alongside her creative practice, she also teaches at ESCAC and independently, offering courses in experimental film, archival filmmaking and the preparation of dossiers for audiovisual projects.
