‘The Fascination of Red’, Fran Gas (2025)

Fran Gas is a filmmaker, director, producer, screenwriter, editor and musician with over fifteen years’ experience in the audiovisual industry. In this session he invites us to discover his most recent works and his exploration of expanded cinema using artificial intelligence (AI).

The session includes video screenings of his latest creations, in which he applies his distinctive approach to generative composition.

He is currently developing what he calls surrAIsmo: experimental works born from AI-generated images that appear by accident.

His unusual combination of commercial success and artistic experimentation has made him a sought-after speaker at leading film schools across Spain.

To open up these questions, he will share his creative process and present a selection of recent work:

Of Youth, by Fran Gas (2023, 4 min 50 s)
After a strange dream, a young woman is abducted by aliens who attempt to steal her youth.

Dark, Light, Yellow, by Fran Gas (2024, 4 min 41 s)
The colour yellow has come into being. Colour psychology will determine the qualities through which it interacts with the world.

#surrAIsmo series

A series of experimental pieces that delve into accident, error and the uncanny: an approach to what we might call the subconscious of AI.

In these short works, the artist lets himself be guided by the AI’s subconscious. He builds on failed, strange or unsettling images, exploring their visual potential.

Big Pink Mouth, by Fran Gas (2025, 2 min 21 s)

Blue Audio Test, by Fran Gas (2025, 1 min)**

The Fascination of Red, by Fran Gas (2025, 1 min 52 s)**

Danza #FFFFFF, by Fran Gas (2025, 3 min 8 s)**

An exploration of generative dance as a meeting point between body, chance and technology.

Music: Lavenzza.
