NETWORK AND COMMUNITY

At Santa Mònica, we network with institutions and organisations, especially those with ties to the El Raval neighbourhood, where the arts centre is located, bringing together artists, collectives and cultural agents.

We see both the centre and art as a common good, that is, as an accessible, inclusive and non-elitist public resource, a space for welcome and reflection on contemporary issues that also serves as a device for community organisation and the redistribution of resources. Therefore, we promote and participate in networks and initiatives that generate dialogues with the public, part of and in touch with the local environment, and connected with other artistic, educational and social initiatives.

 

How do we do it?

 

Within the mediation area, networking is carried out through participation in and collaboration with community projects coordinated by various social, educational and cultural organisations and associations in El Raval.

We collaborate continuously with the Tot Raval Foundation, which in turn is made up of around fifty social organisations, educational centres, cultural institutions, trade associations and individuals connected to El Raval who network to improve social cohesion, coexistence and quality of life in the neighbourhood, as well as to foster a sense of belonging.

From the arts centre, we are part of educational projects and community participation processes such as Apadrina el teu equipament, the Raval Estiu Educatiu project, the Educació Comunitària group, the Raval(S) festival and Sant Jordi al Raval.

At the Santa Mònica, we encourage our resident artists, the Les Mòniques, to develop their artistic practices, research processes and prototypes in dialogue, connection and participation with the neighbourhood. Furthermore, we have also built relationships in the neighbourhood with organisations such as the Taula Jove del Raval and the Xarxa d'Economia Social i Solidària de Catalunya, and occasional collaborations with Arnau itinerant.

To improve dissemination, accessibility and adaptation to diverse audiences, we are part of Close to Culture, a network that connects cultural institutions and social organisations to facilitate access to cultural activities for people in vulnerable situations.

We are also part of the Barcelona climate shelter network and promote the use of our air-conditioned spaces, which are open to everyone all year round: the Bar Lounge and terrace. Furthermore, every summer between June and September, the terrace hosts an art installation selected through a public call, designed to make this space even more pleasant.
