Screening of a video with a selection of performances by Juan Crek between 1991 and 2026, followed by a subsequent discussion with the artist.
Juan Crek (Barcelona, 1956) is a musician, poet and performer. Trained in the classical study and mechanical technique of the baritone saxophone, he has devoted much of his work to timbral research and the electronic transformation of the sounds of this instrument. In 1998, he definitively abandoned saxophone research and practice, as well as production work (except for the occasional job), to dedicate himself to making commissioned music, collaborating with other musicians or artists and developing more personal projects.
He has been or is co-founder of groups and collectives such as Crek Noarde (2020), Ocre (2016), OME Acústic (2011), Ceresoles (2010), Asociación Cultural OME (2010), Banda d’Improvisadors de Barcelona (2006), Ongo (2004), Asociación Cultural La Olla Expréss (2004), Sphere (1998), Olas de Cresta Blanca (1997), Ark (1997), Gràcia Territori Sonor (1996), Xavang (1995), The Mathematics (1983), Laboratorio de Música Desconocida (1982), Cuarteto Zap de Saxofones (1981) and Macromassa (1976).
In 2020, after the tumultuous tragedy of the death of his companion in travel and artistic creation, Víctor Nubla, the band Macromassa ceased to function, while awaiting the release of their last studio work No soy tiempo. In 2021, together with Tina Valent, he took up the Macromassa project again with new performances and the recording of the album Tin Rol va a volar.
In 2025, he continued solo with the Macromassa project and finally released the CD No soy tiempo and a new CD, El bandido de amarillo, recorded at Pablo Miranda's La Isla Estudio. In 2026, together with Sergio Oca, Eduardo Altaba, Pepino Pascual, Pablo Volt, Carles Esteban and Martina Lococo, he is preparing the 50th anniversary of the founding of Macromassa in the form of a concert produced by Gràcia Territori Sonor at the CAT Tradicionàrius. He has recorded on all kinds of media, both solo and with many different artists and bands. He likes frying pans, cheese, apricots, travelling by train, siestas, sunrises and life (that thing between birth and death).
In this session, we will watch a video with a selection of his performances between 1991 and 2026.
