Oxymoron is part of a long-term research project that approaches football as popular dance and community performance, aiming to create tension between the encounters and disconnects of this popular sport with the world of contemporary art.

Football and its rhythm. Football and its aesthetics. Football and its delicacy.

Football as popular dance and community performance.

Football and everything that is supposedly its opposite.

Popular and scholarly. Mystical and historical. Stadium and museum.

Social constructs that blur, faint and serene, before the folds of a sweaty body in constant transit, in constant transformation.

Checho Tamayo is a stage creator, performer, and former football player born in Medellín, Colombia (1994). He has won the national INJUVE call for three consecutive years in the categories of curating at Sala Amadís (2020-2021), production of work (2021-2022), and mobility (2022-2023). In 2022, he created "Moritūrī tē salūtant" thanks to the co-production of the MeetYou festival, the support of the SURGE festival, and the 35th Choreographic Competition of Madrid. In 2023, he received the first prize at the WE:NOW festival with this same piece. His works have been exhibited and presented in spaces such as C.C. Conde Duque (Madrid), Sala Amadís (Madrid), Teatro Pradillo (Madrid), the 45th National Salon of Artists (Bogotá), C.C. Monte Hermoso (Vitoria), Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe (Medellín), Teatro Calderón (Valladolid), Teatro de la Abadía (Madrid), Sala Baratza (Vitoria).

After playing for teams such as D. I. Medellín (Colombia), F.C. Dallas (USA), and C.F. Léon (Mexico), he moved to Castellón de la Plana, Spain, to continue his sports career. His later move to Madrid provided the ideal context for him to reflect on his sports practice and approach it as the expressive medium that his native context allowed. It is at this point that he began his transition from high-performance sport to the performative arts, visual arts, and dance. His work engages with the tensions that arise when inhabiting, simultaneously, seemingly contradictory spaces: football and dance, the subtle and the exuberant, the refined and the popular, the historical and the mystical, wakefulness and dreams.

CITISSIMUM ALTISSIMUM FORTISSIMUM

CITISSIMUM ALTISSIMUM FORTISSIMUM is an exhibition about a contemporary phenomenon that, despite radically affecting our lives, remains underrepresented in the art world: sport as a symptom of contemporary society.
