Santa Mònica Body and Movement Laboratory

Públics tan difícils de satisfer is a body, movement and voice performance arising from the work of the Santa Mònica Body and Movement Laboratory. It is created through a collaborative approach grounded in improvisation, active listening and real-time composition. The piece explores the relationships between stage and gaze, between the observer and the observed, between the desire for validation and the possibility of accompaniment.

I like it or I don’t. Thumbs up or thumbs down.
Is the world on display for our final judgement as spectators? Are we ourselves constantly subject to the approval of others? Are works of art exhausted by the demands of the observer?

Movement, voice and presence unfold through open prompts, permeable structures and practices that move between everyday gesture and abstraction, seeking a shared, ever-changing performative language.

Can a work like this free audiences from the obligation of passing summary judgement? We imagine spectators who accompany; audiences who empathise, who hold the fragility of the moment and understand performance as a space of shared encounter, beyond the accelerated logic of consumption and immediate verdict.

The Santa Mònica Body and Movement Laboratory is a resident artistic research collective that explores the body, movement, dance, voice and performance as living practices of experimentation and shared creation. Bringing together members from an array of different backgrounds, it investigates open performative forms that engage in dialogue with context, space and the relationships between bodies, audiences and presences.

Wednesdays of sound and body
