Rèplica / Retorn

Rèplica / Retorn is a sound performance by Sandra Artigas and Bruma, created specifically for the Wednesdays of sound and body series. The piece emerges from the first encounter between two distinct sonic practices: Sandra Artigas’ vocal, harmonic and performative universe, explored in her latest work, En Trànsit, and Bruma’s language of soundscape, synthesis and electronic composition, which draws in part on fragments from Halo, her latest album. The performance begins with original compositions by both artists, reimagined in an open format that unfolds in real time. Pre-existing songs, melodies and materials become a shared harmonic foundation on which they improvise with voice, keyboard, synthesis, arpeggios, granular textures and sound processing.

At the heart of the performance is a continual back-and-forth. Sandra generates vocal and harmonic material that expands through layers and processed harmonies; Bruma receives these signals, transforms them and returns them to the space as texture, echo, distortion, memory or landscape. In turn, he introduces melodic fragments and sonic structures to which Sandra responds through voice and keyboard. What emerges is not the sum of two fixed repertoires, but a shared space in which each gesture alters the behaviour of the other.

In Rèplica / Retorn, the voice occupies a symbolic place as a reflection of the body: breath, vibration, physical presence, harmony and signal. Sandra's voice is not just a melodic or featured element, but a form of living matter that unfolds, evolves through processing, and returns to the space transformed. The electronics, meanwhile, do not function as a fixed accompaniment but as a listening organism that reacts to and expands whatever it receives. Everything takes place within a prepared structure that remains open to immediate response: a sonic conversation between body, matter and space.

Sandra Artigas (Barcelona, 1994) is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of voice, body and language. Her practice draws on improvisation, composition and sonic experimentation as modes of inquiry and presence. She has developed projects including En Trànsit, Veus Lliures, Delta(s), Matèria Primera, Perspectives and Trombonia, and has undertaken artistic residencies and performed in Catalonia, France and Andorra.
 

Pedro Portellano is the creative director at Bruma Sounds Studio, where he specialises in programming and music creation. As a curator, he has programmed for the Museo Reina Sofía, Conde Duque and Estius de la Vila. He was director of Nau de Música d’Escorxador and co-creator of the Raig Festival. He currently curates the programme at Infinit Delícies and the Tardes Thyssen series at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. As a musician and sound designer, he creates audiovisual and installation projects for brands and studios including Zara, &Walsh, IKEA, Acciona, Repsol, TAVO, Pleid and Luis Urculo Studio.
