Mercedes Saya Rosés, Casa-cajas de muñecas, 2024-2025, ceramics, fabrics, plastic, clay, cardboard, paper and acrylic paint, cardboard boxes 38 × 56 × 11 cm.
How do you explain a dream or a memory? It is difficult to transmit sensations, textures and details of these moments, whether real or fictional, through images or words, but when you stage them they become something material, palpable and real. These small-scale scenes represent the childhood experiences of friends and members of the Catàrsia collective, without resorting to the overexposure of their intimacies.
Mercedes Saya Rosés is a communicator, researcher, event producer and curator based in Barcelona. She is interested in mediation as a way to articulate alliances with different collectives and communities of the global majority, and art in all its expressions as a means to reach them and work with them. Since 2019, she has been part of the Asian-descendant art-political collective Catàrsia, with which she has taught forum theatre workshops in schools and institutes and collective fanzine creation workshops for young people; has participated in conferences (Jornades Interacció 2023, 8th Meeting of Culture and Citizenship), and has co-organised two editions of Furiasia at the CCCB (2021 and 2022), the first festival by and for Asian diaspora in Spain. In addition, Catàrsia was the first resident collective at the CCCB, working under the mentorship of Nancy Garín.
