Narratives in Transit: A Transmasculine Cinema

What images, representations and characters come to mind when we talk about transmasculine representations in audiovisuals? Throughout the history of cinema, the erasure of transmasculine, non-binary and butch identities has been a constant. However, as with other communities, this visual genealogy deserves to be acknowledged. In recent years, several pieces have emerged in Spain that propose new images and languages conceived from the perspective of transmasculinity.

We will screen two of these short films followed by a conversation with Juno Álvarez, director of I Love My Testo, who will share his work in progress:

Juno Álvarez
Juno Álvarez (pronouns elle, él, ella) trained in the Master's Degree in Theory and Practice of Creative Documentary at the UAB, where she co-directed, sound-tracked and edited the interactive documentary DIYSEX, which travelled to more than 20 film festivals and won several awards. In 2024 he released his first feature-length documentary-experimental, co-directed La revolución de las musas o cómo posar sobre unas piedras desnuda (The revolution of the muses or how to pose on stones naked). She is currently working on her project I'm in love with my testo with Cacao Cinema, in which she explores concepts such as her trans gender identity and non-binarism.
