Kuanmaru
tea ceremony, developed by Kuanmaru in collaboration with Elsa de Alfonso. Built around the sounds of ceramic tea utensils and live recordings of the ceremony, the piece moves between stillness and intensity, somewhere between tradition and rupture, ritual and music.
Kuanmaru is a Taiwanese sound artist and tea practitioner from a family of tea producers in Meishan, southern Taiwan. Her work intertwines tea ritual, voice and experimental electronics to create immersive listening environments. For this project, she has teamed up with Barcelona-based artist Elsa de Alfonso, blending their distinct approaches to performance, soundscapes and cultural heritage.
