Ella Poema Egipto, an invocation of the sacred as a transformative force. Africa Moment presents a performance by Aïda Colmenero Dïaz.
"An invocation of the sacred.
Not as a distant mystery,
but as a living flame at our core.
May the sacred flow through us like a river,
transform us like fire, and reveal us, once again,
that the divine has always dwelt in us".
Ella Poema Egipto is part of the project Ella Poema, by the company Aïda Colmenero Dïaz.
Ella Poema is a project inspired by poems written by women, created and produced in Africa by its new generation of women creators in the performing arts. A revolutionary project due to its gender and post-colonial vision that, since 2013, is positioning women creators from more than a dozen African countries as artistic benchmarks on the international scene. So far, Ella Poema has produced 20 short dance films, 6 contemporary dance pieces and photographic series of great beauty and visual power. The creators of Ella Poema, daughters of the revolution and independence of a continent, are unique and pioneering artists who, from their particular geographical, cultural and personal context, confront individual and intimate creative processes to transform a literary score into corporal and audiovisual language. They use performative codes born from their immediate daily environment, from their heritage and from their own creative impulse, revealing universal messages. Ella Poema questions the stereotypes that the collective Western imaginary imposes on black-African female bodies, transgressing the hegemonic audiovisual and stage narratives, to offer a unique artistic manifestation.
Ella Poema Egipto is a play directed by Aïda Colmenero Dïaz, performed by Nermin Habib. With the support of the Government of Catalonia Ministry of Culture.
