Miguel Benlloch, Tipotropotropos: Elogio a la pereza, (selection 1998-2012), digital print on Dibond, 20 × 30 cm.
Tipotropotropos is a collection of photographs taken between 1998 and 2016. They manifest Miguel's performativity and a heretical artistic practice based on any situation or scene, be it daily, liturgical or festive. The guy he embodies, created with an imperceptible prop and some deviation of clothes or poses, is the main character of the action that deciphers codes imposed by the heteropatriarchal system to disarticulate dissidence. The political intersects with poetry, the trashy, the witty and the everyday.
Miguel Benlloch was an artist, poet and activist. During the 1960s and 1980s, he was a driving force behind the creation of the Andalusian Homosexual Liberation Front (FLHA) and an active member of the Andalusian Communist Movement, as well as the anti-NATO movement. In 1983 he founded, together with Juan Antonio Peinado and Marino Martín, the concert hall Planta Baja in Granada. Between 1986 and 1994 he was a member of the group Cutre Chou. He was a founding member of BNV Producciones in 1988. Between 2001 and 2015 he coordinated and produced the UNIA Art and Thought research programme at the International University of Andalusia (UNIA). In 2006, he promoted the creation of the Platform for Reflection on Cultural Policies (PRPC) in Seville.
His performances and actions have been presented at The Kitchen, New York; Arteleku, San Sebastián; the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art, Seville; MACBA, Barcelona; the Museu Picasso, Barcelona; Ex Teresa, Mexico City; the National Museum of Art and Museum of Ethnography and Folklore of La Paz, Bolivia; Tabakalera, San Sebastián; the Museum of Contemporary Art of Santiago de Chile; the Centre for Contemporary Creation of Andalusia (C3A), Córdoba; CentroCentro, Madrid; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; Villa Arson, Nice and the IVAM, Valencia. A selection of his texts and visual works is included in the publication Acaeció en Granada, published by Ciengramos; and an anthology of his poems was published in Miguel Benlloch. Cuerpo conjugado by the Fundación Huerta de San Antonio.
